CHARACTER
Name: Steven Quartz Universe
Canon: Steven Universe
Age: Child (His age has yet to be directly stated, but he seems to be somewhere around 10).
Timeline: After "Catch And Release" (episode 70).
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: --

Personality:
Steven is an all-around positive, happy-go-lucky boy, charming in his childlike excitement and wonder about all things, easily making friends wherever he goes, even in the most strenuous of circumstances.
His positivity in most situations is a force to be reckoned with; while he’s noticeably maturing as the series goes on, his positive outlook on life is usually not only a drive force for himself, but also to others. He is able to find the most simple things exciting, especially if they’re new to him – as a lot of things from what we could call “normal life” are, such as the idea of school (which he has never attended, and was entirely interested after Connie mentioned it), among others. He is also a great source of motivation for others, both due to his charismatic nature , and his true belief in other people’s potential.

As could be expected of a child as young as him, Steven may sometimes show signs of some naivety – or, in the very least, his tendency to assume the best in others could be seen that way. Loving and absolutely caring by nature, there are times when he seems to ignore other people’s disdain and mockery of him (such as Lars’ clearly displeased attitude towards almost everything Steven seems to do), although it may simply be Steven’s forgiving and trustful nature, or a mix of all these traits at once. His trust in others often works in his favor, and might even get him out of dangerous situations, defusing them in ways that no one else seems to be able to (such as gaining Lapis’ friendship, despite her anger and despair; or befriending the Centipeedle, that, despite a negative outcome for the creature, was a fairly positive experience, and the creature was able to help the Crystal Gems conclude their mission).

It is implied that Steven shares a lot of personality traits with his mother, who is remembered as a kind altruist, loving, caring, protective of her loved ones. Steven holds a deep curiosity about the person his mother was, having never met her as she gave up her physical form so he could be born. In the beginning of the series, in a monologue partly “directed” at Rose, Steven expresses his doubt in how exactly he should feel about her, and how he wishes he could meet her. Almost all of his knowledge about her come from tales and impressions given by the Crystal Gems and his father, safe for a tape that he found hidden in Lion’s mane, with a loving message she recorded for Steven himself, when she was pregnant of him. In her message, she expresses her amazement and love for Earth and its creatures, claiming that Steven will be something amazing, as he will be a human being.
However, Steven seems to carry some guilt about what happened to his mother – during Joy Ride, Steven expressed his feelings about how he believes the Crystal Gems might blame him for Rose being gone. He believes he could not ever take her place, finding himself a poor substitute for everything everyone holds his mother to have been, and the instances in which Rose’s name brought more grief than simply expressions of fondness (such as Pearl’s spiral into desperate attempts to state her place as Rose’s absolute second hand and, therefore, the one who suffered the most with her absence) seem to have exacerbated these feelings.

There have been more than one occasion where Steven shows a great need to prove himself to the Crystal Gems; looking up to his caretakers as incredibly strong, “cool” individuals, he often expressed his wish to join them in missions, before he was allowed to. Gradually improving through experience, there are still times when he bites off more than he can chew. Though the need to prove himself often resulted in naïve notions of what it means to be “strong” and “good enough”, such as investing in physical strength through training - such as when he first saw Sugilite, and began not only to try and copy her, but to train himself, his father and some friends, ignoring Pearl’s advice on different types of strength; and his shock and strong disappointment when he found out that the Moon Spire mission was, in fact, a test, with no dangerous or serious consequences, that he believed he failed, and demanded the Crystal Gems to test him again. He expresses these kinds feelings explicitly in the extended version of the shows theme, by stating how he “will fight to be everything that everyone wants [him] to be when [he’s] grown”.

As the time progresses, Steven begins to grow and mature, seeing things for how they really are. As he began to truly learn the true meaning of being a Crystal Gem, and their situation drastically grew more dangerous, it justifiably became harder to handle. His positive attitude fell under pressure, and, after the events in The Return and Jailbreak, Steven was justifiably stressed and upset, forced to face the reality of their situation. Highly emotional as he can be, his upset efforts were still kindhearted ones: not wanting to endanger his friend Connie, he attempted to break off this friendship to protect her, no matter how much pain it brought him. In the end, she was able to persuade him into thinking clearly, asserting her place as a much needed support for him at the time (and to the present day). This was yet another example of Steven keeping his troubles private, hiding them away from others so not to worry or bother them, putting other people’s needs first.

Despite these troubles, Steven never stops being the laid-back, sweet little boy he’s always been. Playful and cheerful still as he grows more self-aware, his strengths shine through his extreme empathy and understanding towards others.

It’s worth to note that he isn’t really much of a fighter; not due to lack of experience or strength, and certainly not due to any kind of lack of courage, but simply due to his gentle nature. One can even take his weapon (Rose’s shield) and some of his powers (bubble shield, healing) as a more direct representations of Steven’s protective, peaceful nature, as he almost always chooses to talk things out instead of investing in physical confrontation, despite his involvement in usually dangerous or even deadly situations.

Abilities:
As a half-human, half sentient magical gem alien, Steven has a myriad of different magical abilities, most of which seem to be more of the defense and healing kind, some of which come as a surprise to him and others. But he also has some more human skills and qualities, which I will list below.
Throughout the series so far, he has came to discover several new abilities, some of which he has yet to control. While there are some powers that the Crystal Gems expect him to have, as the first of his kind Steven's list of abilities are uncertain.

Rose's Shield: Like all Gems, Steven has the ability to summon a weapon from his gem. In his case, he can summon a shield - specifically, his mother's shield (which she is seen wielding in past depictions of her, along with her sword). Steven has become quite skilled while using it since first being able to summon it in the beginning of the series (which can be deduced to about a year, perhaps a little bit more), not only as a form of defense, but also as a weapon, throwing it at enemies. The amount of times he summons it, its size, and the kind of hits it takes put Steven in relative amounts of strain. Having borrowed and then given his mother's sword to Connie, the two seem to have a good balance in battle, performing a sort of tag team sword-and-shield duo tactic.

Bubble shield: Steven also has the ability to form protective bubbles around himself and others. All depictions of his ability until now lead us to believe that he has to be inside the bubble to be able to form it. For example: when at the deactivated Kindergarten, he instinctively formed a bubble to protect himself, Pearl and Amethyst from being injured. Amethyst was left outside the bubble, much to Steven's worry. Steven also summons/forms these bubble shields by accident/unconsciously, usually when he feels like someone he cares about is in danger.

Bubbling objects: Different than the bubble shield, Steven shares the ability to bubble objects and send them back to the temple - specifically, Garnet's room, where they hold corrupted Gems they have "poofed", until they find a way to cure them. These bubbles keep the corrupted Gems (and possibly any kind of Gem) from coming out of their gem and assume a physical form.

Healing spit: While his mother had healing tears, Steven inherited the same healing power, but through his spit. This gives him the ability to cure not only injuries (like Greg's broken leg) and long-term ailments (Connie's need for glasses), it also seems to be able to heal cracked gems (like Lapis Lazuli's). Whether or not that means fully uncorrupting gems is uncertain, as Steven has yet to be seen trying it on one. Unfortunately, Steven can't access this ability at all times, specially if he believes himself unable to use it (like the time Greg lied about Steven having failed to heal his leg, rendering Steven unable to use his power when he believed he had failed).

Shape-shifting: All Gems have the ability to shape-shift, despite the fact that we've only seen three of them use this power in the series so far. Steven can't control this power as of yet; when he first attempted to use it, he managed to turn all of his fingers into small, independently sentient "cats", soon losing control and having these cat-like blobs form all over his body and having to have them fought (with copious amounts of water) into disappearing.

Age manipulation/fluctuation: This power falls under the list of those that Steven cannot control. Possibly related to the shape-shifting ability all Gems are known to possess, Steven's physical age changes according to how old he feels he is or should be. This can be dangerous, as it is possible, much like the first and only time this power was used, for Steven to transform into a very weak, very old version of himself, and it is unclear whether or not he can die from old age, as Gems do not age, but Steven is half human.

Fusion: Gems possess the ability to fuse with other Gems, creating another being that is more than the sum of its parts. Fusion is reached through sharing a dance, and is highly dependent of both consent between the original parts, and how strongly they connect on an emotional and psychological level. Steven, however, also has the ability to fuse with humans, having successfully done so (so far, twice, and accidentally) with Connie, the both of them forming Stevonnie. Steven has yet to fuse with any Gem.

Phytokinesis: Another power discovered entirely by accident, Steven has the ability to grow sentient plant life, much like his mother, presumably through contact with his spit (as watermelon seeds he spit out turned into a large number of humanoid watermelons in his image). As Rose's sentient plant life lived to protect her, so do the sentient watermelons Steven grew, becoming highly aggressive when they think Steven is in danger. Due to their highly aggressive nature, having attacked the Crystal Gems and dismissing Steven's orders to stop, he told them to leave and reconsider the true meaning of loyalty.

Dream communication (with Gems): Steven is able to communicate with Gems through dreamscapes, though it's hard to understand just exactly he does this, and he seems to have little to no control over it. Regardless, he was able to communicate, through his dreams, with Lapis and Jasper individually, despite them being forcefully fused as Malachite in an unknown location, and locked into a full-on, in-fusion tug-o-war.
It is unclear if Steven can do the same with humans.

Accessing and interacting with Rose's room and armory: The Crystal Gem's temple works as a separate dimension, accessed by an inter-dimensional door, controlled by their gems, usually to each of their individual "rooms" (which are all connected in the one dimension). Steven first gained access to his mother's room by accident, when he felt a great need for some privacy. Rose's room, a seemingly endless space of pink clouds, has the ability to create physical images of Steven's wishes, sometimes fully instinctive, tricking Steven. However, its powers are limited, not only to the amount and size of the illusion it's creating (as creating the illusion of the entirety of Beach city caused it to start failing and the illusion to literally fall apart), but also to what information Steven possesses ( it cannot tell him anything he doesn't already know). Steven cannot fully control the room, and talks to it directly to give it orders.
Steven also has access to Rose's armory, as it responds to him touching the control pad. However, he doesn't know how to fully control it, resorting to poking at different parts of his own body to bring up different items of his mother's collection-

Lion's mane: Steven can also access Lion's mane, which seems to be a portal to a different dimension altogether. While he can fully climb into it, it lacks oxygen, making it impossible for him to stay (while regular Gems don't actually need to breathe, Steven does). Lion's mane seems to serve as a sort of secret place Rose stored some of her most prized and important possessions, and, upon discovering this, Steven began to use it as a sort of mobile storage as well.

Gem Technology: Steven has the ability to use/interact with Gem technology, old and new. The main example is how learned to use the teleport pads he and the Crystal Gems use to travel to different places on Earth, now using them with ease.
However, his status as a half-human also affects these interactions: while aboard the Homeworld ship, he was able to walk through the shield that blocked his holding cell completely unharmed (simply feeling a shiver up his spine due to the feeling), while Ruby was painfully shocked when she attempted to touch it. Contact with the supposedly electric shield caused a glowing pattern to appear on his skin as it lasted, which appeared once again when he directly grabbed hold of a Gem Destabilizer - an electrical-based weapon that, on attack, shocks and dissolves a Gem's physical manifestation, causing them to retreat into their gems to regenerate - and it just seemed to suffer a mild buzzing shock.

Retreating into his gem: While pure Gems retreat into their Gems to regenerate when their physical manifestations suffer a great deal of damage, it is unclear if Steven possesses this ability, as a hybrid. (One of the show's creators stated that, should Steven ever retreat into his gem, he would die and be unable to regenerate, but it's unclear whether or not he was being serious, as said writer tends to answer a lot of plot-related questions jokingly).

Physical strength: Most Gems seem to be physically stronger than their physical manifestations would lead you to assume, and the same seems to happen with Steven, specially for someone his size and age. He has been seen pushing strong monsters or keeping them at bay by himself, picking up people bigger than him, stunning an opponent with a throw of his shield, and even shattering his father's van dashboard and activate the airbags with a single smash of his fist.

Battle experience: While still very young and only starting to partake in missions with the Crystal Gems fairly recently, it is safe to say that Steven has some experience in battling enemies, specially in a group - or, in a strategic sense, paired with Connie. He is no stranger to dangerous situations or physical threats, gradually becoming a better fighter.

Empathy: As someone with high levels of trust in others, regardless of how well he knows them or who they are, Steven is a highly empathetic person who will go to great lengths to help out others in their situations (sometimes leading to rather awkward results). However, his empathy can also be considered in a magical ability sense, as he was able to feel the presence of a Gem that had taken hold of a lighthouse, without any previous knowledge that it had been there.

Music skills: Taught by his father since a young age, Steven is rather skilled with a number of different musical instruments. While his favorite seems to be the ukelele, which he is seen properly playing already as a toddler, he also is seen playing other instruments such as the guitar, the bass, and drums. He is also a fairly good singer.

Prose Log Sample:

He felt the gentle rattling as he began to wake up, mistaking the sound for rain hitting the window. It felt kinda nice, kinda soothing, really relaxing…
“…huh?”
When his eyes fluttered open – that wasn’t rain at all. He saw a…a field. A really big field, and… Wait!! He was moving.
He sat up straight, finding himself in a small room. Wait, no – that noise. Was he on a train?
Steven slipped out of his seat, looking all around as he walked to the door, peeking out. He saw nothing but an empty passageway through the car, and the train tracks was all he could hear.

“Hello? Anybody in here? Helloooo?”

He walked down the hall, looking through the different doors. No people, no voices – this place was totally empty! How did he even end up in here in the first place? The last thing he remembered was finishing re-reading the last chapter of his new Battle Heroes manga, and then he went straight to-

The train suddenly screeched to a halt, causing the poor boy to yelp and fall over. With a groan, he pushed himself up – staring in confusion at the now open car door.

“What the…?”

Walking towards it, he looked out, before cautiously stepping into—a train station? Well, he figured that made sense. He was just on a train after all.
His flip-flops echoed in the empty space as he walked, looking for just about anyone who could help him figure out just what the heck was going on.

“Hellooooo? Can anyone hear me?

Helloooo?...

Is anybody in here?

I kinda just woke up in this train and, well, I really don’t know where…huh?”

The large posters caught his attention, with large print words that were absolutely hard to miss.

“Ruby…City?”

He pulled a face, scanning the words and maps, vaguely wondering if this was some kind of weird dream. It didn’t feel like one… Though he has had some weird dreams in his lifetime.
As he went to turn to continue his search, it took him a moment to realize that the train was completely gone. Startled and even more confused, he knew for a fact that he didn’t hear it leave. He would have heard it, right? Trains are pretty noise, he wouldn’t have missed it, but trains don’t just disappear like that. He looked around, fruitlessly, his poor curled-hair covered heard stuffed with question marks.

“Just what’s going on?...”
